Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, driving the plan to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Together with consortium partners, Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic General Operative – Storesperson to contribute to the NZT Power – NEP Project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Role Purpose
To support the efficient receipt, control, storage and distribution of materials, tools and equipment across the project, ensuring materials are available to support programme delivery and operational requirements. This is a multi‑functional role; the individual will undertake general operative duties where store activity is reduced or where additional site support is required.
Stores Person Duties
* Receive, inspect and record incoming materials, tools and equipment
* Maintain accurate stock records and inventory control systems
* Issue materials and equipment to work fronts in line with project requirements
* Organise and maintain stores areas, lay‑down zones and material segregation
* Carry out regular stock checks and report discrepancies or shortages
* Ensure materials are stored safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidance
* Support material traceability and document control requirements where applicable
* Liaise with supervisors, logistics teams, suppliers and operatives regarding material requirements
* Assist with unloading, loading and movement of materials across site
* Maintain housekeeping and safe working practices within stores and logistics areas
General Operative Duties (as Required)
* Support construction activities across mechanical, electrical and general site operations
* Assist trades with material handling, preparation and movement
* Carry out manual handling activities in line with training and site procedures
* Support housekeeping activities across site compounds and work fronts
* Assist with loading/unloading and distribution of materials
* Follow all site procedures, permits, risk assessments and method statements
Key Accountabilities
* Efficient and accurate management of materials and stores operations
* Supporting programme delivery through effective material availability and control
* Maintaining safe, organised and compliant stores areas
* Flexibility to support wider site operations and general operative duties as required
* Promoting high standards of housekeeping, safety and operational discipline
Required Experience / Qualifications
* CSCS Card (or equivalent)
* Previous experience in logistics, stores or site‑based operations
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple teams
* Understanding of health, safety and environmental standards
Desirable
* Experience on large‑scale infrastructure or energy projects
* Similar plant experience (where applicable)
* Knowledge of stock control systems or materials tracking
* Manual handling training
