: Further to the direct line report, the post-holder must develop productive working relationships with: England Women's U20 Lead and Assistant Physiotherapists, England Women's U18s Lead Doctor and Physiotherapist and the England U20s management team and players.

: £450 per day

Engagement Type
: Contractor status. Required attendance at all England Women's U20s training camps and match camps including the Women's U20 Six Nations Summer Series (approximately 60 in camp days) plus 3 in-person CPD days.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team behind the England Rugby Women's U20s squad. England Red Roses are currently ranked number one in the world and will be looking to regain the Rugby World Cup trophy this year at the tournament being held in England during August and September. The Women's Pathway, consisting of the U20 and U18s squads and the U18 Player Development Groups, is key to inspiring and equipping players to maximise their potential, with the ultimate aim that some players will go onto play in the Red Roses and support a stronger senior team. We are seeking a passionate, driven and clinically excellent doctor to support the England Women's U20s squad on a contractor basis. The role will require attendance at camps and fixtures throughout the season leading up to the 2026 Women's U20 Six Nations Summer Series.

Some key responsibilities include:

i. Provide clinical and performance rugby medicine services to the England Women's U20s players during training and match camps and the Women's U20s Six Nations Summer Series.

a) Liaising with the England Women's U20s Lead Physiotherapist between camps to:

* Monitor the fitness of players for selection to upcoming camps/competitions
* Monitor players with acute and long-term injuries.

b) On-site sports medicine support to the England Women's U20s squad:

* Providing medical support to both players and staff in camp for general health conditions.
* Attending and leading the pitch side immediate care at team training sessions and matches.
* Providing sports medicine consultations to diagnose, investigate and commence appropriate management of acute injuries.
* Assessing fitness to play or train in conjunction with the other medical team members.
* Work with the Women's U20s Lead Physiotherapist to ensure appropriate handover of both acute and ongoing medical conditions back to Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR) Clubs at the end of each camp and/or competition.

c) Leading on the medical planning for training camps and competitions, including Medical Emergency Action Plans, medication and medical equipment requirements.

d) Leading on the medical planning for overseas travel including ascertaining host country medical services, vaccination requirements mitigating the impact of travel and exertional heat illness risk mitigation and emergency planning.

e) Supporting the planning, documentation and implementation of individualised injury prevention programmes.

f) Monitoring player wellness and injury status whilst in training camps and competitions.

ii. Maintain accurate medical records using the on-line electronic medical record keeping system (Intelligence Platform: Performance Medicine) in accordance with the England Elite Rugby Best practice medical record keeping guidance for Medical Practitioners and Therapists and General Medical Council (GMC) guidance.

iii. Participate as part of an inter-disciplinary sport science and medical team to facilitate world class player development and care.

iv. Attendance at 3 face to face PRD Medical Continuing Professional Development (CPD) days each season, with the option to attend monthly online CPD, Journal Club and Case Based Discussions.

v. Attendance at Women's Pathway Alignment Days and Whole Staff meetings whenever possible.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Qualifications:

Essential:

* Medical Degree
* Post-graduate training in Sport and Exercise Medicine (PG Diploma or MSc)
* Registered with General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice
* Current Level 3 Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Course Certificate (or equivalent)
* Proof of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) specific to Sport and Exercise Medicine

Desirable:

* A range of diverse advanced clinical skills.
* Qualification in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound.
* Experience in joint injections.

Experience:

Essential:

* At least 5 years' post-registration experience including General Practice and/or Emergency Medicine
* At least 3 years' experience of providing sports medicine support to elite athletes
* Experience working within elite rugby
* Experience of self-directed work and working as part of a team
* An understanding of and experience in applying appropriate medical ethics in an elite sports medicine environment

Desirable:

* Experience working with elite female athletes
* Experience working with elite age group teams/squads
* Experience in female athlete health

Skills:

* Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft Office software or Mac packages to store manipulate and present information
* A proven track record of success and a winning mentality

Other:

Essential:

* The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information and be aware of the Data Protection Act and Access to Health Records Act
* The post holder will need to be cleared via an enhanced DBS check.
* It is the responsibility of the doctor to ensure that they obtain appropriate medical indemnity insurance covering this role.
* Demonstration of ongoing immunity (or in the case of non-responders, freedom from infection) to hepatitis B. Compliance will be based on: blood test result demonstrating an anti HBs level of > 100 international units per ml along with details of vaccination history and booster if > 5 years post-initial course OR (in the case of non-responders) details of vaccination history plus evidence of freedom from hepatitis B infection (dated within 12 months).
* Possession of clean driving licence.
* The post holder should be aware of the responsibility placed on employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out.
