In your studies you will develop a broad knowledge of the UK political system, understanding topics such as Parliament, political parties, the electoral system, pressure groups, the European Union and role of the Prime Minister. Balance your viewpoints, evaluate the strength and weaknesses of processes and institutions and enter debates. Comparison is made to the US system – the constitution, President and role of the Supreme Court. You will understand a complex and challenging world, attributing your theoretical knowledge to the issues the world is facing today. Hone your critical thinking skills, along with your ability to craft a strong argument for your beliefs.

Fine-tune your debating skills by joining the College’s debating society. Run hustings events and interact with local MPs and parties. We also organise trips to the Houses of Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Scottish Parliament. A number of our Students get involved with local elections to help develop their socio-political ideas among their peers.
