Transportation Safety Manager - Hince Transport
Hince Transport is looking for a Transportation Safety Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in safety, be able to communicate effectively, and work independently. We seek a natural leader with a passion for the job. This position reports directly to the CEO and has full responsibility for managing the safety department. The role is based in Hearst, ON.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement policies and procedures regarding transportation and workplace safety to ensure compliance with state/provincial and federal regulations such as OSHA and DOT/MTO.
2. Create training materials and conduct sessions for driver orientation and ongoing training for new and existing team members based on their roles.
3. Mentor managers in safety management practices, protocols, and procedures.
4. Conduct audits and inspections of private fleet and vendor practices to monitor and ensure compliance.
5. Collaborate with the recruiting department during hiring to ensure driver quality aligns with criteria.
6. Create, maintain, and monitor safety files and related records, including Driver Qualification Files.
7. Conduct post-accident reviews and prepare reports to identify causes and hazards.
8. Act as the company's liaison with insurance agencies for accidents, incidents, and claims.
9. Report and follow up with drivers on violations, tickets, accidents, injuries, claims, and incidents.
10. Assist in renewing permits and licenses such as IFTA and US HUT Permits.
11. Enter and maintain data related to fleet maintenance, accidents, tickets, etc.
12. Manage CVOR events and compliance, including driver Hours of Service from ELDs.
13. Support other departments to improve driver retention and address issues and complaints.
14. Assist with other safety and compliance functions, including audits.
Qualifications:
1. Health and Safety education and/or equivalent experience.
2. 5+ years in transportation or safety management.
3. Knowledge of Hours of Service, MTO, and DOT regulations.
4. Keen attention to detail, good time management, and organizational skills.
5. Ability to work flexibly and in a fast-paced environment.
6. Ability to meet deadlines through organized work planning.
Job Type: Full-time or Part-time
