We are currently working in partnership with one of our clients, who are recruiting for a Reviews Officer on a 6 month fixed-term contract. The position is based in Epping and is due to start as soon as possible. The salary is £43,197 pro rata.
The ideal candidate will have experience carrying out s202 reviews and s204 appeals, and will have good knowledge of tenancy agreements across all housing types.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
1. Conducting thorough investigations, reviews, and handling legal challenges under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 to ensure compliance with legislation, case law, and policy within statutory timeframes
2. Supporting service improvements and early resolution of complaints, including responding to MP enquiries and Stage 1 complaints, using a customer-focused, problem-solving approach
3. Accurately logging and updating all casework using relevant IT systems
4. Providing advice on the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 to ensure consistent and lawful decision-making across the team
5. Working with Legal Services on s204 appeals and Judicial Reviews, including preparing case files, attending court, and liaising with Counsel
6. Managing case file collation for Subject Access Requests and filing requests in line with data protection requirements
7. Deciding on the provision or withdrawal of interim accommodation during reviews or appeals, including drafting Mohammed case law letters
8. Staying up to date with legislation and case law, contributing to the development and maintenance of procedures and training materials
Experience required:
9. Carrying out s202 reviews
10. Responding to legal challenges in the form of pre-action protocols, Judicial reviews and assisting with s204 appeals
11. Managing a caseload and meeting deadlines
12. Keeping accurate records
13. Developing procedures and protocols
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
14. Understanding of homelessness prevention initiatives and welfare benefits
15. Familiarity with statutory and voluntary support agencies and relevant legislation across housing tenures
16. In-depth knowledge of tenancy agreements across all housing types
17. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills for engaging with diverse audiences
