Due to maternity leave, we have a rare opportunity to work in a specialist role within Maternity and Women’s Services.

We are looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist with an independent prescribing qualification, and willing to prescribe in clinics and at ward level.

This post holder will play a key role in medicines management in the maternity and delivery units and implement opportunities for medicines optimisation for women and the neonates in the units. You will also gain experience in neonatology and paediatrics, working alongside our Advanced Pharmacist – Paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

Provide an expert level of clinical pharmacy services to Women’s services, including the maternity unit, delivery suite and neonates at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust (DGH).

To work closely with the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Children’s and Neonates and provide cover in their absence, this includes paediatric inpatients, out-patients and neonates

Lead specialist clinical pharmacy practice for the directorate and be responsible for the delivery, development, review and co-ordination of clinical pharmacy services in line with standards defined by national priorities, divisional objectives and the DGH Pharmacy/Trust Strategy.

Be responsible for all aspects of medicines management to optimise patient’s care involving the use of medication and aid in the delivery of the directorate’s key performance indicators.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

1. MPharm or equivalent academic qualification
2. Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
3. Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience/qualificatio
4. Independent prescriber and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or willing to work towards after appointment

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria

5. Significant experience post registration and postgraduate experience in hospital Pharmacy

6. Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and advice relating to the safe use of medicine

Communication & Relationship Skills

7. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, both verbal and written to communicate highly complex drug or medicine related information
8. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

Analytical & Judgement Skills

9. IT literacy including the ability to use a range of Microsoft 365 packages, Power Point, email and use of the internet to research evidence-based medicine and to utilise medical database
