The Opportunity
We are looking to support our rapidly growing portfolio of projects, particularly within the energy transition sector, including pumped storage, offshore wind, cable route interconnectors, CCUS/hydrogen, and geothermal schemes. Due to the continued growth of our Ground Engineering team, we are seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer in our North Region. You will have the opportunity to push boundaries, develop new skills, and work on high-profile projects across energy, infrastructure, and landmark buildings.
This role can be based in Newcastle, Belfast, Glasgow, or preferably Edinburgh. You will be part of a multi-project, multidisciplinary Ground Engineering team, leading geotechnical analysis and design, site supervision, producing drawings, specifications, reports, and mentoring junior team members. You will also be encouraged to contribute to innovative research topics.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality. Our strength comes from respecting and connecting diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas. You will have the chance to do meaningful work that benefits Arup, your career, our members, clients, and communities.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for candidates with:
* A background in geotechnical analysis and design, preferably with experience in renewable energy projects.
* A MEng or similar Civil Engineering degree with postgraduate qualification in a geotechnical subject, ideally Soil Mechanics, and chartered status or close to attaining it.
* Experience managing and interpreting ground investigations in a civil engineering consultancy.
* Desire to develop business and build successful client relationships.
