The role
As a Dockside Crane Operator, you’ll be at the heart of operations that support the Royal Navy and wider defence sector. You’ll play a vital role in lifting and moving critical components and equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of dockside activities. Day-to-day, you’ll operate dockside tower cranes safely and efficiently by following manufacturer guidelines.
1. Operate dockside tower cranes in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and safety protocols
2. Liaise with the Crane Supervisor upon arrival and throughout operations
3. Wear appropriate PPE and promote a culture of safety at all times
4. Resist pressure to perform unsafe operations and uphold safety standards
5. Interpret and apply information from reports and duty charts to ensure safe crane use
Please note that this position involves working at height. Candidates must be able to work safely and perform tasks at varying heights.
This role is full time and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. Whilst OWP is not guaranteed; it involves a 4-week shift cycle consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. If you would like to know more about OWP please contact the Recruitment Team.
Essential experience of the Dockside Crane Operator:
6. Extensive experience operating cranes in an industrial or dockside environment
7. Strong understanding of how wind and weather conditions affect crane operations
8. Proven commitment to safe working practices
Qualifications for the Dockside Crane Operator:
9. CPCS Blue Card or NPORS N certification is essential
10. Additional qualifications in slinging, forklift operation, or lift supervision are advantageous
