We have an exciting opportunity for a Sonographer / Accredited Vascular Scientist to assist with training delivery for the North East and North Cumbria Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme. The role is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but requires attendance at screening sites within the catchment area.
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and sensitive individual to perform abdominal ultrasound scanning in the community and support local training of Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners. You will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team working closely with NAAASP-approved vascular units to provide an effective, patient-focused service. You will also be encouraged to undertake various training and development activities.
You should have a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards it.
The successful candidate will need to have a clean driving licence and access to a car with insurance for business purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for training, supervision, and quality assurance of Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners in accordance with national and local policies.
2. Perform accurate abdominal aortic ultrasound scans as part of the community AAA screening programme.
3. Ensure all ultrasound scans are performed to high standards and in accordance with national SOPs.
4. Inform and educate members of the public attending clinics about the implications of AAA screening.
5. Provide health promotion to men identified with an aneurysm.
6. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver an efficient, effective service to patients at screening centres and sites.
7. Undertake professional and technical training as required by the North East and North Cumbria AAA Screening Programme.
