Job Summary:
Working under the direct supervision and guidance of the Classroom Teacher. The Education Assistant will assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. The EA provides routine and repetitive instructional support under the direction of teacher, an EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Work under the supervision of one teacher or several different teachers; administration.
* Work independently with student/s in classroom or independent learning environment.
* May work with some special needs children or a group of children in some school settings or learning environments.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary/collaborative team within the learning environment; program; school.
* Assist with playground supervision and lunch set up and lunch supervision as scheduled per grade level.
* Perform clerical tasks for the teacher as needed and requested. (Photocopying; laminating; collect and prepare materials; clean up and organizing; etc.)
* Help students with lessons and instructional support.
* Motivate and encourage students to participate in learning activities.
* Conduct group drills.
* Demonstrate activities, set up and dismantle displays, play areas and work areas.
* Assist students with personal care needs if needed and required.
* Be able to write and keep anecdotal records on students as needed or required as per assignment.
* Other duties as deemed appropriate by Administration or Designate
Education, Skills, Requirements:
* Teacher Assistant Certificate an asset
* High School Diploma an asset
* Training or experience working with Special Needs children
* First Aid certificate (training will be provided)
* Strong oral and listening communication skills
* Must have flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination
* Must have the ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working with large groups of
* Computer knowledge (Google, Microsoft office)
* Ability to take directions as needed and work independently as required
* Fluency in the Stoney Language an asset
