Salary: £12.29 per hour
We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our established Residential Team at Bay View on a casual basis, covering shifts within the business as and when needed. You’ll be working in one of our family-feel children’s homes in Heysham or rural North Lancaster, with a maximum of four young people per home.
Our service requires individuals who will help guide young people aged 8-18 with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties to success and who are dedicated to supporting our ethos. As well as this, you will support providing a safe, secure, homely, and positive environment for the children and young adults in the home so that their lives are progressively improved.
You must be over 21 years of age and hold a full UK driving license. It is a requirement that you hold a Diploma Level 3 in Working with Children & Young People.
Principal Accountabilities
* To carry out duties as a Childcare Worker and Key Worker so that the National Standards, laid down by Ofsted, are consistently exceeded.
* To ensure the highest possible standard of childcare is provided to the children resident in the Home.
* To purposefully and systematically improve the lives of all young people resident at the Home.
* To build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with family, friends, and any other external body, as requested by the Registered Manager.
* To contribute to building and maintaining a culture of trust and mutual respect between all involved in the Home, both children and staff.
The Provision of Childcare
* Contribute to the development of appropriate and high-quality care plans for each young person.
* Adhere to all legal requirements, Ofsted standards, and the policies and procedures of Bay View Childcare at all times.
* Note and communicate any feedback from residents, family, friends, placing authorities, and other relevant parties to the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager.
* Maintain the Home as clean, tidy, safe, and secure at all times.
* Build constructive and trusting relationships with the children, ensuring a full understanding of their personal background and individual needs.
* Be approachable, friendly, and professional, proactively engaging with the children and creating an open, positive, and inclusive environment.
* Proactively work with the children to build relationships, add to their quality of life, and build foundations for future personal success.
* Actively supervise and keep the children safe, looking out for signs of unease, frustration, and unhappiness, and engaging with them as necessary.
* Sense, manage, and de-escalate any conflict situation that may arise, in line with Bay View Childcare’s policies and procedures.
* Proactively communicate all issues and concerns relating to the children to the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and Shift Leader.
* Carry out risk assessments for new activities and pre-activity assessments for existing activities to ensure they operate safely and effectively.
* Be actively involved in activities with the children, doing things with them, like a good parent would.
* Discharge all responsibilities as a ‘Key Worker’ and ensure all children are treated as individuals.
* Maintain regular and constructive communication with the family and friends of the children for whom you are the ‘Key Worker’.
* Remain positive in participation in activities with the children and relaying personal life experiences.
* Make an active and constructive contribution to reviews of any child for whom you are the ‘Key Worker’.
* Follow all company policies and procedures, completing necessary paperwork diligently and fully.
* Ensure the quality of food provided to the children is in line with pre-agreed food standards.
* Assist with cooking and purchasing foodstuffs as required.
