Exciting opportunity to join two of Queensland’s leading schools Lead and develop an inhouse Grounds and Garden team Stable work environment based on campus We are currently inviting applications for the role of: Grounds Team Leader Our Schools St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School are two of Queensland’s leading independent schools, fostering in students confidence, compassion, academic excellence and a lifelong love of learning. We look for all staff to be committed to and in harmony with the Anglican ethos of the schools. St Margaret’s and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls Schools are building inhouse grounds teams as part of a shared service model across the two schools. Our grounds team contributes to the positive educational environment for our students and families by providing high quality green space across each campus. The role This role is part of the broader Facilities Teams and leads the Grounds team to ensure a high level of grounds maintenance and presentation across both school’s grounds. The role will: Provide leadership and direction to the internal and external grounds teams Facilitate day-to-day grounds maintenance Oversight of sporting grounds maintenance Lead and perform garden improvements/makeovers, irrigation and soft landscaping projects Support the broader Facilities Team with general maintenance and providing support for function and event setups The ideal candidate This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced and qualified horticulturist or gardening team leader. You will be able to demonstrate: A strong knowledge and experience in overall garden management and garden design, including common landscaping plants used in Brisbane, soils and plant, nutrition, pests and disease and irrigation systems A hands-on approach to leadership, with a willingness to work alongside the grounds team in delivering day-to-day maintenance and improvement projects Proven experience and ability to establish, lead and develop a small team Qualifications in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, Turf Management or similar will be highly regarded A strong working knowledge of work, health and safety practices as they relate to grounds maintenance A high level of attention to detail in both the day-to-day gardening maintenance and longer-term landscaping projects Excellent time management skills to ensure all deadlines are met A high level of energy and physical capability to perform the required tasks in an outdoor environment A positive attitude, high level of flexibility and well-developed interpersonal skills Benefits of the role The Grounds Team Leader will enjoy: The unique opportunity to play a strategic role in leading the school’s inhouse grounds and gardening service Being part of a positive facilities team environment across the two schools A range of wellbeing initiatives offered to staff; including employee assistance program and free flu vaccinations Competitive salary to be negotiated based on skills and experience The Team Leader will work across both St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in Ascot (4 days) and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School in Corinda (1 day). This is a full-time role across the full year. Some flexibility with hours may be available and participation in a rotational Saturday roster and/or on call responsibilities will be required.
