Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Manager Location: West Bromwich Reporting To: Managing Director Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Manager to lead and manage all electrical and instrumentation activities within a COMAH wholesale chemicals facility. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all E&I systems, while leading a team of 14 engineers and coordinating specialist contractors as required. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, particularly in instrumentation and control, alongside proven leadership experience in a hazardous industrial environment. Key Responsibilities * Lead, manage, and develop a team of 14 E&I engineers and technician, and oversee and coordinate external contractors to support maintenance, projects, and shutdown activities * Ensure all E&I systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance * Take ownership of site electrical and instrumentation strategies, including maintenance plans and continuous improvement initiatives * Provide technical leadership in PLC/HMI programming, fault finding, and system optimisation * Ensure compliance with COMAH regulations, site safety procedures, and engineering standards * Maintain and improve systems within hazardous areas in line with ATEX requirements * Support capital projects, including design review, installation, commissioning, and validation * Manage budgets related to E&I maintenance and improvements * Drive a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to permit-to-work and safe systems of work * Act as a key technical authority for instrumentation and control across the site Qualifications & Experience Essential: * HNC (or equivalent) in: * Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Instrumentation & Control * Minimum 10 years’ practical experience post-qualification * At least 5 years in a supervisory or management role * Strong background in Instrumentation & Control (I&C) within an industrial environment * Proven experience managing engineering teams and contractors Technical Skills & Knowledge * Expert in PLC/HMI programming, including:RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View * Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and control systems * In-depth understanding of ATEX and hazardous area classification * Experience working within a COMAH or similar high-hazard environment Personal Attributes * Strong leadership and team management skills * Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability * High attention to detail with a focus on safety and compliance * Effective communicator across all levels of the organisation * Proactive, hands-on approach with a continuous improvement mindset The salary is negotiable. 25 days paid holiday (and all UK Bank Holidays), a 40-hour working week, ½ hr lunch, Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm, paid sick scheme, free life assurance and access to a stakeholder pension scheme, based in West Bromwich, West Midlands
