This is a unique opportunity within the business development team of an international law firm in London to provide exceptional research, market analysis and pitch capabilities to support the firms growth strategy within the Private Capital practices, in particular Private Funds and Private Equity M&A, and other adjacent practice areas as necessary.

The role will focus on taking a proactive approach to analysing the private capital landscape. You will use this analysis, working closely with key partners, to translate current and future trends into meaningful strategies to help inform our sponsor clients on fundraisings, transactions, financings and other operational issues.
In building this level of intelligence, the analyst will work collaboratively across the BD team and with fee earners on various initiatives to assess and drive outcomes to support growth in market share in the most complex and high-profile private capital matters. As part of the role, the individual will create exceptional first draft pitch documents on behalf of the Director of Business Development. A key area of focus for this person is to add strategic thinking to improve the standard of pitch decks, including incorporating more intelligence and insights.
Responsibilities
Research, analysis, thought leadership
* Forensic scanning of the European private capital ecosystem to be or become a ‘subject matter expert’ and be able to identify opportunities, such as newly established managers, strategic changes at funds, including diversification, tracking job moves, and communicating all such data to the BD team and partners.
* Preparing briefing materials for internal use and for other market materials and pitch decks as required. These may include client-specific BD initiatives such as background papers on specific funds targets, as well as ongoing monitoring of the target clients and suggested touchpoints to engage with them.
Pitch support
* Creating and evolving pitch decks based on our standard templates and utilising precedents, following best practice and producing impactful, tailored decks which focus on the client’s requirements and strategic rationale.
Building relationships and collaboration
* Maintaining a network of market contacts.
* Regular reporting and briefing of lawyers on market and economic conditions affecting the private capital industry.
Requirements
* Excellent analytical skills and an ability to synthesise themes and identify trends in data that can be used to inform “go to market” strategies.
* Highly proficient in the key private capital databases such as Mergermarket, Pitchbook, Preqin, Bloomberg, and others.
* Previous experience in a professional services firm such as accountancy, asset management or the data providers mentioned in the point above.
* Excellent writing and editorial skills.
* Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with other analytical tools such as PowerBi would be advantageous.
