An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Older Person's Medicine Physiotherapy Team at the Freeman Hospital. This post is suitable for someone interested in starting a career within physiotherapy who does not hold a physiotherapy degree. The role will begin at Band 2 and is expected to progress to Band 3 within two and a half years, with training provided to support this progression, including in‑house training and one day per week attendance at Derwentside College to work towards a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker qualification.
The post is based on the older person's medicine wards working Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will work alongside a team of physiotherapists, enabling rehabilitation, progressing mobility and promoting exercise. Required skills include effective team working, highly developed communication, IT usage and moving and handling.
Main duties of the job
* Provision of equipment as assessed by the Physiotherapist.
* Mobilising patients alongside the Physiotherapist.
* Promoting activity with patients.
* Progressing exercise programmes with patients.
* Gathering collateral history from patients' family.
* Completing relevant clinical notes and ongoing referrals as required.
* Working alongside MDT to provide best care for patients.
* Communicating effectively with patient, family and encouraging participation in rehab.
* Rehabilitation of patients independently or alongside members of the physiotherapy team.
Job responsibilities
Physiotherapy Assistant (Band 2)
* Work alongside and under the supervision of the physiotherapy team to supply both direct and indirect patient care.
* Carry a caseload delegated by a chartered physiotherapist who has carried out an initial assessment.
Physiotherapy Technical Instructor (Band 3)
* Under the supervision of a registered Physiotherapist the Technical Instructor will independently manage a designated caseload of patients, defined as non-complex, within a specified clinical area, providing assessment and interventions on behalf of the physiotherapist within predetermined guidelines.
* All patients will have an initial assessment carried out by a state registered physiotherapist.

Knowledge
* An appreciation of the principles of physiotherapy practices and procedures.
* Basic understanding of manual handling principles.
* Understanding of hydrotherapy.

Experience
* Broad range of life experiences.
* Previous experience of working in a caring environment or as a physiotherapy assistant.
* Experience of working with individuals with a physical disability e.g. mobility problems.
Qualifications
* Good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including Maths and English.
* Associate Member of Chartered Society Of Physiotherapy.
* NVQ level II or III in Therapeutic and Diagnostic Care or other relevant subject.
