Our client is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer for a contract position in London. This is a critical role focused on leading the design and project management of highways, traffic management, road safety, and active travel schemes. The role requires a high level of professional judgement and technical expertise to ensure effective delivery of the Service Plan.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and manage the feasibility, concept development, detailed design, and implementation of various highways and traffic schemes.
Act as the technical lead for assigned schemes and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all initiatives are technically compliant, cost-effective, and completed within budgets.
Apply professional judgement and expertise to support programme planning, risk management, and continuous improvement.
Supervise, monitor, and control allocated project budgets to ensure effective financial management and value for money.
Deliver the design of highways, traffic and transport schemes in accordance with the Local Implementation Plan.
Work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver transformational projects and improve service quality.
Provide professional advice to Councillors and other officers ensuring compliance with the standing orders.
Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Project for producing various scheme designs from feasibility to detailed designs.
Job Requirements:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, and other specialist highways design software.
Extensive experience in designing and managing highways, traffic management, and road safety schemes.
Strong project management skills including budget monitoring and preparing bills of quantities.
Ability to lead project teams and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports at committee meetings.
Flexibility to occasionally carry out duties outside normal office hours, such as site visits or public consultations.
