Job overview

It is anticipated that this will be a fixed-term appointment for 12 months to extend the post, dependent on success.

The post-holder must have or have by the time of appointment, the MRCOG Part 2 qualification with interests, clinical skills and knowledge in high-risk obstetrics and acute gynaecology.

The primary clinical work area will be ambulatory obstetrics – high-risk maternity triage and the antenatal ward setting. This includes managing maternal medicine patients through the maternal medicine network including an opportunity to develop ultrasound skill in the foetal medicine unit.

There will be an opportunity for the post holder to maintain and develop their acute gynaecology skills to facilitate the completion of training / serve as evidence for portfolio development.

There will be the opportunity for the successful applicant to undertake ATSMs /SITMS if they still need to start this and support the CESR application.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must be able to participate in the O&G doctor’s on-call rota as a senior registrar and provide support to more junior doctors on the rota. In addition, the successful applicant is anticipated to offer senior obstetric cover for maternity triage.

The division will undertake to support the successful applicant through leadership programmes via the Barts Health Education Academy.

The successful applicant will facilitate multi-disciplinary teaching to junior doctors and midwifery staff, liaise with the Education Team regarding learning from incidents, and participate in multi-disciplinary training programmes such as PROMPT with the Education Lead and lead for foetal monitoring.

On call duties
The post-holder will begin on the senior register rota at 1:10 on calls. This is a 3-tier rota; there are 2 SHOs on call, a Junior registrar and a Senior registrar. The onsite obstetric consultant covers at The Royal London Hospital from 08:00-2200.
There is a separate Gynaecology Consultant on call who is onsite from 08:00 -1700 and off-site from 17:00-08:00

Education

Essential criteria

1. Full GMC registration
2. Complete MRCOG or recognised on the GMC specialist register
3. Registered ATSM/SITM or CESR pathway

Desirable criteria

4. Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of advisory appointments committee)

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria

5. O&G doctor working on a senior registrar rota in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
6. >12 months of NHS experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
7. Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients and operate as a senior registrar in a busy tertiary unit

Desirable criteria

8. Up to date RCOG portfolio or equivalent
9. Log of experience or procedure
10. Obstetric scanning Skills and accreditations

Skills

Essential criteria

11. Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement
12. Experience of teaching and supervising junior medical staff
13. A track record in Quality improvement
14. Experience in Clinical Audit

Desirable criteria

15. Formal training in quality and improvement methodology
16. Peer Reviewed publications
