Overview
Senior Quality Engineer — South Molton. Salary up to £55k DOE. The client is a global player within the aerospace industry based in north Devon.
Responsibilities
* Execute the defined Strategic Quality Plan in conjunction with plant leadership and provide quality assurance support to customers, suppliers, partners and internal manufacturing cells.
* Lead a team of Quality Engineer(s) and Quality Control staff in the execution of the Quality System and Strategy.
* Provide Quality customer interface and expertise to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied, including leading complaint resolution and root cause and corrective action execution.
* Support and drive the Quality Team in manufacturing areas with collection and analysis of quality data, ensuring product and process quality requirements are implemented through EQS Policies and Quality Best Practice deployment.
* Solve technical product/process and business process problems using structured approaches (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma).
* Develop, implement, and improve the appropriate Quality Management Systems; provide advanced quality planning support for new products, processes and services.
* Audit internal Quality Systems and complete part approval documentation to ensure customer requirements are met in new or modified products and processes.
* Analyse organizational quality metrics, perform periodic reviews, and recommend action plans to close gaps at an operational level.
* Develop and analyse statistical data and product/process performance to drive improvements in targeted areas.
* Contribute to the design and implementation of quality assurance training programs and conduct training on quality topics.
* Participate in product development and launch activities, including identifying customer expectations, manufacturing and test support, reliability analysis, design reviews, evaluation of test programs, and material testing.
* Provide support for development and evaluation of process capability, process control plans, analysis of out-of-control conditions, and process audits.
* Develop, implement, and audit inspection and test plans, standards, acceptance criteria, and procedures/work instructions.
* Investigate and eliminate causes of quality problems and follow up on corrective actions.
* Participate in the design, procurement, maintenance, and evaluation of gauges, measurement instruments, devices and test equipment.
* Travel within and beyond the UK may be required due to dealing with external parties such as customers and suppliers.
* Flexible working hours may be required to facilitate investigations and improvements around production needs (e.g., tests or inspections during shifts or weekends).
* This role is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and may have restrictions on who can work on this project.
Skills / Qualifications
* Ability to lead a small team of Quality personnel to drive performance through the APEX process.
* Ability to manage all team personnel requirements (H&S, disciplinary, training, sickness, etc.).
* Thorough understanding of problem solving methods (Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis) and associated statistical tools.
* Knowledge and understanding of Eaton's Quality System requirements.
* Detailed understanding of the phases and requirements of effective new product development and launch methodology.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques (e.g., pFMEA, Critical to Quality characteristics, Control plans).
* Knowledge of industry and customer quality registration schemes and certification processes (ISO9001, EASA Part 21, AS9100).
* Knowledge of system and process auditing techniques to ensure compliance with defined quality requirements.
* Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts and tool sets related to process/product variability and root cause/corrective action.
* Knowledge of product and end-user specifications, including product testing requirements (design/process interface).
* Thorough knowledge of gauging and basic understanding of product material properties.
* Understanding of engineering design and product reliability concepts and tool sets.
* Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
