Mechanical Fitter - Purfleet
Do you enjoy solving mechanical problems and keeping equipment running smoothly?
We're looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Heidelberg Materials UK in Purfleet. You'll be responsible for inspections, maintenance, and supporting plant operations - helping us stay safe, efficient and reliable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out planned and preventative maintenance in line with schedules and procedures
* Conduct daily inspections, identify faults, and take corrective action to reduce breakdowns
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, incidents, and near hits
* Support electrical and production departments when required
* Participate in planned shutdowns and provide out-of-hours breakdown cover on a rota basis
* Supervise contractors and ensure safe working practices
* Maintain workshops, equipment, and facilities to high standards
* Ensure proper isolation procedures are followed
* Assist with plant improvements and development projects
* Provide holiday and sickness cover for plant operators, including sampling, cleaning, and deputising for the Miller
* Work at other Heidelberg Materials sites as needed
* Ensure correct storage and handling of oils, lubricants, and gases
* Identify and respond to spillages and maintain clean, safe work areas
What We're Looking For:
* Recognised apprenticeship in mechanical or welding/fabrication disciplines
* Strong fault-finding and preventative maintenance skills
* Certified mobile plant licences (Forklift, Bobcat, Loading Shovel, MEWP)
* Solid understanding of health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
* Familiarity with electrical isolation and permitting procedures
* Systematic approach to problem-solving and planning
