Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner – Scrub to join the Operating Theatres team at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road.
We look for an experienced and highly motivated practitioner with excellent communication skills, strong clinical leadership and a commitment to delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care within the ophthalmic theatre environment.
As a registered practitioner (RGN/ODP) you will provide expert specialist ophthalmic nursing care, act as a role model and clinical resource to junior staff, and support safe, effective perioperative practice.
Main duties
* Accountable for the provision of high‑quality care and a safe environment for patients within your delegated clinical area.
* Organise all human and physical resources in the delivery of clinical care, problem‑solving while escalating appropriately to the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics.
* Assess care during the perioperative and postoperative period.
* Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning from the theatre suite for each patient.
* Provide skilled assistance to anaesthetists and surgeons in the operating department.
* Take appropriate action during emergencies.
* Successfully complete ILS and PILS training.
Person Specification
Education And Qualifications
* Essential: NMC/HCPC registration.
* Desirable: Recognised Clinical Teaching Qualification or willingness to work towards.
Experience
* Evidence of team coordinating and management.
* Experience in undertaking a preceptor/mentor role.
Skills
* Positive attitude to change and proven ability to assist senior staff in implementing change and practice development.
* Understanding of audit importance and ability to apply processes to improve nursing practice.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, non‑verbal, written).
* IT skills: Microsoft Office, Galaxy, Genesis, OpenEyes.
