An Exciting Opportunity

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

Role

* Be at the heart of setting up this new supported accommodation scheme and making it a reality for care experienced young people, residents with mental health challenges, and residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
* Design a new model of support and evaluate the scheme at key checkpoints.
* Be responsible for coordinating staff across the council, including social care, housing management, housing needs, commissioning, housing benefit, legal and finance.
* Help achieve significant cost reductions for various key budgets.
* Create a successful foundation to allow the scheme to scale up, providing a brand new support service for up to 100 homeless residents per year while ensuring good quality delivery for all residents throughout.

The Person

Our ideal candidate will be part of Brent's work to tackle homelessness and provide better support and accommodation to residents in Brent. You will enjoy creating something meaningful and working with colleagues across a broad range of topics. You will have a passion for public service and partnership working and thrive operating in ambiguity. You will be someone who wants to set the strategy, write the policies, and design the scheme - but is also financially literate, analytic, and a strong communicator. You will be comfortable reporting to senior management including independent company Boards, and working closely with a highly experienced Chair.

While experience in housing or supported accommodation may be beneficial, this role is for anyone who has the right qualities and can learn fast. Experience in public service and knowledge of local government and housing companies are desirable.
