Team / Directorate: Hydrometry and Telemetry, Evidence, Policy and Permitting Starting salary: £36,246 rising to £39,942 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants) Contract type: Permanent Work pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week (Part time, annualised hours, compressed hours or term time working considered - discussions at interview stage welcome) Post number: 202923 The role To ensure the effective management, delivery and development of NRW's provision of hydrometric data services which are critical for NRW and external partners to enable appropriate decisions to be made in a cost effective and timely manner. To ensure the provision of hydrometric data analysis, validation and derivation to agreed standards and timescales for NRW and external partners. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance. What you will do Work with operational Hydrometry and Telemetry teams & local clients to determine appropriate priorities within local work plans, to support the delivery of Directorate Delivery Plans and to ensure strategic objectives are met. Ensure the validation, analysis, derivation and interpretation of hydrometric data by adhering to national and international standards and best practice to agreed standards of service. Contribute to national advances in data management and validation techniques. Maintain, manage and optimise hydrometric data systems operation to collect, archive and provide timely data to NRW staff, external partners and business systems. Establish and maintain a wide variety of internal and external relationships for the benefit of Natural Resources Wales. Provide accurate and timely data and information addressing the needs of internal and external customers, seek to continually improve the quality and standards of service from a customer perspective. Contribute to the development of advice and guidance for hydrometric monitoring in Wales, in developing standards for data validation and processing of hydrometric parameters and policies relating to the governance of hydrometric data. Participate in or lead projects for hydrometry or associated systems or assets. Mentor, coach or train others as appropriate on associated work to help broaden technical capacity, understanding and knowledge transfer. Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method. Relevant degree or equivalent experience. Understanding and demonstrable knowledge of hydrometry, hydrology, or flood risk management. Basic knowledge of the British, European and International standards relating to Hydrometry and its mechanisms, enabling NRW to deliver appropriate hydrometric data. Excellent ICT skills and prior use of the WISKI suite of software. Data management and manipulation skills and experience. Able to work independently with high standards of governance demonstrating personal initiative Welsh language level requirements Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh) Please note if you do not meet the A1 requirement i.e., ability to understand basic phrases and ability to pronounce Welsh names correctly, then NRW offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal requirements during the course of your employment with us.
