Material Handler
Salary: GBP15.00 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 4:00pm
Location: East Lothian Transfer Station
As a Material Handler at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and safe running of our site. You will be responsible for operating mobile plant machinery to handle waste materials efficiently, while ensuring compliance with health and safety and environmental regulations.
This is a full-time position, working 5 days per week.
What will you be doing?
* Carrying out daily start-up inspections and light maintenance on mobile plant machinery, including greasing and clearing debris
* Operating a wheeled loading shovel and other mobile plant equipment safely and efficiently
* Loading third-party vehicles with waste material, ensuring payloads are maximised and vehicles are not damaged
* Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, including general housekeeping duties across the site
* Adhering to traffic management rules and enforcing them for other site users
* Monitoring and reporting fuel usage and stock levels to line management
* Supporting with other duties such as cleaning, grounds maintenance, statutory checks, and inspections
* Covering for colleagues during breaks, holidays, and sickness
* Following all health, safety, and environmental policies and reporting any hazards or incidents
What are we looking for?
* Experience operating wheeled loading shovels and holding a current, valid licence
* Ability to load bulk articulated vehicles with varying materials
* Confidence working and manoeuvring machinery in confined spaces
* Literacy and basic computer skills, as you will complete checklists, reports, and records
* A proactive and team-oriented attitude, with the willingness to get stuck in and help where needed
* Good timekeeping and reliability
* Flexibility to take on a variety of duties as required
* Previous experience in the waste management industry would be beneficial, but is not essential
