We are looking to appoint a Practice Development Nurse to join our Local Neonatal Unit at Newham University Hospital, part of Bart's Health Group. Our unit has 2 ICU, 4 HDU and 17 Special care cots supporting our tertiary units and maternity services.
The PDN is responsible for the education, teaching and training of pre and post registration students, and the newly qualified Band 5 nurses, as they transition from being students to NQN. The role also includes teaching resuscitation, training and implementing new medical equipment and continuing educational updates and an active role in the recruitment process. The post holder will be expected to continue to maintain their clinical skills by working roistered shifts, using the best evidence-based care available.
This role will provide support in nursing practice in the clinical environment and at the same time you will be well supported in your role by your colleagues, Matron and Associate Director of Nursing as well as the wider MDT of medical staff and Allied health professionals. The Band 7 Senior Nurses, lead a team of qualified Neonatal Nurses, Registered Children's Nurses, Nursery Nurses, Health Care Support Workers and Ward Administrators in caring for babies in our care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a role model demonstrating excellent standards of professional practice ensuring that these standards are adopted service wide. This involves working alongside the senior team in change projects and to provide specialist neonatal nursing education and development resource to the Neonatal Service.
The post holder is expected to ensure that their own clinical practice and that of the team within which they are working, is of a safe and high standard and is in accordance with the unit and Trust policies at all times.
The post holder is expected to ensure that clinical practice is continually reviewed through
Audit, Learning from Clinical Incidents, Clinical Outcomes Family experience feedback, Recommendations from external assessments and benchmarking with national clinical standards or centres of excellence.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Current registration with the NMC Paediatric RN or Adult RN status
2. Post registration Neonatal Critical Care qualification (QIS)
3. Teaching and assessing qualification and /or Mentorship Module
4. NLS training compliance
Desirable criteria
5. Evidence of degree level study
6. NLS instructor status
7. Post graduate teaching qualification
8. Evidence of leadership course attendance
Experience

9. Experience at Band 6 in a level 2 or 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
