About the Role We are seeking a talented and forward-thinking bioinformatician to join our interdisciplinary team designing, developing and testing new bioinformatic pipelines to analyse important public health pathogens. The team comprises research software engineers, bioinformatic engineers, biostatistical researchers, clinical researchers, molecular biologists and computational microbiologists. Our work is funded by the Ellison Institute of Technology, Oxford Ltd and the pipelines we develop are deployed in https://www.gpas.global for use around the world and also for research purpose. We are part of the larger Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) Unit which comprises approximately 40 researchers situated in Oxford, predominantly at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The group is taking a lead in infectious diseases research in the UK. This is a rare opportunity to help develop bioinformatic pipelines that will deployed onto a cloud-based industry-standard platform that is extensively supported and promoted. The post is full time and funded until 31/03/2027. About You You will have extensive experience of bioinformatics, including a PhD (or near to completion) in a relevant subject and an MSc in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Mathematical Biology or a related subject. You will have expertise in making sense of microbial genetics. Proficiency in a high-level programming language is required as is a willingness to work collaboratively with the wider team using modern software development practices (e.g. pull requests).
