Description Role Responsibilities: Monitor and manage vessel traffic to ensure the safety and efficiency of vessel movements using the VTS system (radar, AIS, CCTV etc) Proactively and positively respond to developing unsafe navigational situations Provide timely and accurate information on factors that may influence ship movements and assist in on board decision making Enforce local and national legislation, including Port of Tyne Byelaws and General Directions Respond to emergency situations and activate the relevant contingency plans Allocate marine resources to support safe and efficient vessel movements Schedule, record and monitor vessel movements Collate and disseminate relevant information to all river users, acting as a key communication link for Port stakeholders Assist the Harbour Master and Marine Leadership Team as required. Essential Experience Sea-going experience as a Deck Officer or; Experience working in a port environment / VTS Centre Previous experience of and the ability to lead, develop and influence others Excellent communication and presentation skills Able to build and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and externally. Essential Qualifications OOW Unlimited Certificate of competency II/1 103/1 – Vessel Traffic Service Operator Certificate Local Port Services LPS Certification and/or able to demonstrate LPS/port marine operations experience.
