The company has developed a new generation of nanopore-based sensing technology for faster, information rich, accessible and affordable molecular analysis.
The first application is DNA/RNA sequencing, and the technology is in development for the analysis of other types of molecules including proteins. The technology is used to understand and characterise the biology of humans and diseases such as cancer, plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, and whole environments.

Our “Applications Tool Development” team is looking for a passionate and skilled Bioinformatics Software Developer to help us build new generation of computational methods to capitalize on Nanopore’s unique features and the latest platform improvements.
We expect the candidate to have strong programming and software design skills, with a proven track record in practical software development. Experience with analysis of sequencing data and proficiency with standard genomics tools will be a major plus.
The Details….
The successful candidate will join our new Application Tools team. The role will involve design and implementation of bioinformatics software for various applications of Nanopore sequencing.
Responsibilities
* Develop computational tools for analysis of ONT sequencing data, contributing to various applications from genome assembly to somatic variant calling.
* Collaborate with other teams at ONT to get feedback and stay up to date with the latest technological advancements.
* Plan the appropriate benchmarking experiments.
* Prepare clear and comprehensive documentation and facilitate integration of developed software into analysis workflows.
* Keep extended team informed about the latest developments and best usage practices.
What We're Looking For…
* Relevant degree (i.e., software engineering/computer science) or significant software engineering experience.
* Curiosity, learning drive and interest in the domain of computational genomics.
* Expertise in programming and software design, with proficiency in Python, Rust, or C++.
* Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures.
* Extensive contributions to (at least one) real-life codebase.
* Excellent problem-solving skills.
* Experience in data wrangling and visualisation.
* Experience with analysis of genomic/transcriptomic sequencing data and proficiency with standard genomics tools will be a major plus.
