About the Role
We are working with a leading environmental and planning consultancy, known for its dedication to creating better futures for people, nature, and place. With a strong presence across the UK and a deep commitment to sustainability, they are now seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director to lead and expand their Ecology services in Scotland and Northern England.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role in a purpose-driven, employee-owned business, supporting a talented multidisciplinary team on some of the most high-profile and rewarding environmental projects in the UK.
The position is based in either their Edinburgh or Glasgow office, with flexible hybrid working and occasional travel to sites, client meetings, and other offices as needed.
About the Consultancy
With nearly 60 years of experience, this organisation has built a national reputation for high-quality consultancy in environmental planning, landscape architecture, ecology, and sustainability. Their Ecology team operates from six UK offices, supporting a wide variety of projects from renewable energy and infrastructure to heritage, conservation, and green/blue infrastructure planning.

Key Responsibilities
As part of the Ecology Leadership Team, your role will include:
1. Leading the strategic development and delivery of ecology services in Scotland and Northern England.
2. Contributing to team-wide direction, resource planning, and business growth.
3. Inspiring and mentoring a talented team of ecologists and ornithologists.
4. Driving excellence in ecological survey, assessment, and project delivery.
5. Leading a portfolio of ecological consultancy projects, ensuring quality, performance, and profitability.
6. Representing the business at industry events and contributing to best practice.
7. Helping to shape scientific and operational standards across the ecology discipline.
About You
We are looking for a confident and credible leader with a strong track record in ecology consultancy and a passion for creating long-term environmental value.
Essential:
8. Extensive experience in ecological consultancy within the UK, including senior leadership responsibilities.
9. Proven ability to lead teams, develop business, and win work.
10. Strong knowledge of UK ecological survey methods, planning policy, and legislation - particularly in a Scottish context.
11. Excellent communication, commercial and project management skills.
