Our highly respected Renewables department in the UK and Ireland, provides consulting engineers, data insights, deep technology expertise, modelling and software solutions. We do this to enable the successful rollout of renewable power and to deliver the energy transition. We are engaged in all phases, from initial concept evaluation through construction and commissioning into operations, life extension and decommissioning. The main customers are turbine manufacturers, wind farm developers, owners and operators, as well as investors.
Within Renewables, our Wind Projects section comprises 40 engineers who deal with everything in the wind farm’s lifespan from the development of the project through its operation to decommissioning, taking in analysis of energy production as well as technical assurance to financial transactions. The Project Operation team within our section is focussed on the range of consultancy services relating to the operational phase of a wind farm’s life or for owners and operators, both onshore and offshore. These may include the following areas but should be expected to be expanded over time: Operations and maintenance, Installation, Decommissioning, Inspection, Repowering, Life Extension, Upgrades, Cyber security, SCADA.
Our primary market is the UK & Ireland, with key hubs in Bristol, London, Glasgow and Dublin. However, we also collaborate with colleagues across the globe, sharing our knowledge and expertise, to help deliver critical projects for our customers around the world.
1. Purpose of the role
We are looking to recruit a Team Lead to manage the newly formed Project Operation team within the Wind Projects Section. The individual should have a good understanding of the market, be able to actively engage with customers and business development activities to support both sales and the delivery of a strong team performance. The successful candidate will have a key role in implementing an effective on- the- job training and upskilling plan to meet market demands, whilst offering opportunities for individuals to develop and widen their skills.
Reporting directly to the Head of Section, the main responsibility of the Team Lead will be to provide leadership to their team to ensure market relevance. This will involve coaching, developing, retaining and recruiting staff, and ensuring an exceptional employee experience. The Team Lead will aim to maintain staff’s motivation and engagement levels and utilized the team optimally to meet Section’s operational targets and objectives. This will be achieved, in part, by ensuring the team has the right capabilities and are striving for a high performing collaborative culture. The Team Lead will ensure that business development and execution of projects are appropriately resourced with the right individuals, completed within the required timelines and budgets and to the required quality standards to meet customer requirements.
Team Leads are expected to contribute to commercial work as technical experts in their discipline with management / administration taking up to 35% of their time and the rest split between commercial work and business development activities as appropriate considering the needs of their team.
2. Key accountabilities
Commercial/strategic
1. Support Business Development by actively engaging with customers, supporting lead generation and proposal preparation.
2. Take responsibility for defined sales areas (as defined by the Head of Section), coordinating with Commercial and Business Leads.
3. Promote a customer-centric attitude amongst the team with respect to prioritizing and nurturing leads/proposals.
4. Support and follow-up the financial performance of the unit to ensure long term sustainable operations.
5. Assist with team’s project financial performance by ensuring project management best practices are adopted in the team to avoid incurring in projects overspends.
6. Ensure efficient and consistent delivery of services in line with customer expectations and in line with required standards and best practice guidelines.
7. Drive/encourage collaboration across teams/departments to ensure successful cross-departmental and cross-service line projects and development opportunities.
8. Work with Head of Section to ensure QHSSE standard within the team are met.
9. Work with Head of Section and Business Leads towards the definition of section (and department as appropriate) Strategy and Budget for the forthcoming year.

10. Ensure that appropriate systems and processes are in place to deliver work within time to a high standard of quality

13. Support and develop a team of Engineers/Consultants and delegate tasks and initiatives appropriately – using the employee annual review process to define goals and KPIs which are smart and stretching.

18. Identify and plan staff development using the Company development model (learning by doing, learning from others, and training, with time split 70:20:10) to ensure continuous improvement and service delivery.
19. Ensure team is utilized at the appropriate level (. is spending an adequate proportion of their time on commercial projects) given mix of responsibilities of the team

7. Technical / Professional Expertise and Qualifications required:
36. Previous experience within the renewables sector, preferably in the team’s main focus area (operation of wind farms). A specialism in either offshore wind or operations and maintenance would be an advantage.
37. Strong commercial awareness, good understanding of the market drivers and challenges (market foresight), and proven business development ability in the area.
38. Demonstrates a professional approach to their work and is a good role model for junior staff.
