Deputy Radiology Service Manager – Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. The Trust offers inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital and a wide range of community services. Recent developments include the £170 million upgrade of the Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit, as well as a new Urgent Emergency Care Centre opened in March 2023.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Radiology Services Manager to provide operational and clinical leadership within the Radiology Service Line and deputise for the Radiology Service Manager. The role requires close collaboration with modality superintendents to ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality imaging services across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Deputise for the Radiology Service Manager in their absence, providing operational and strategic oversight.
* Coordinate with modality superintendents to maintain efficient and safe service delivery across all imaging modalities.
* Ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations (IR(ME)R & IRR) and safeguard patients and staff from harmful ionising radiation exposure.
* Lead and engage in clinical governance processes, including audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and the implementation of quality improvement measures.
* Develop, review and maintain Trust and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support consistent, safe practice.
* Manage delegated budgets and physical resources within Imaging, responding to unpredictable workloads and service demands.
* Support the delivery of service performance indicators and national targets, including cancer pathways and RTT.
* Provide expert advice on imaging modalities and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of imaging equipment and best practice standards.
* Represent the organisation at internal, system, regional and national meetings regarding Radiology services.
* Facilitate staff training and development, particularly mandatory radiation safety and governance training.
* Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
* Analyse critical incidents, near‑misses and errors, and implement corrective and preventative measures.
* Contribute to policy development and review, ensuring alignment with national standards and Trust requirements.
* Maintain professional development and participate in agreed in‑service or external training.
* Ensure 10 % of the job plan is devoted to agreed clinical duties, maintaining professional competence and credibility.
* Occasional participation in seven‑day working may be required by agreement; regular on‑call duty is not expected.
