The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.
Main duties of the job
Ensure compliance with all processes, procedures, and policies that meet organisational standards, including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy, HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda), and SFG20. Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance as instructed by the Team Leader, supporting minor work activities. Perform routine repairs or minor works such as joinery, painting and decoration, general building works, ground works, or plumbing. Maintain accurate site log books at NHS premises.

Job responsibilities
We are offering a great opportunity for a Maintenance Operative based in Reading - Bath Road Surgery. The role offers a starting salary from £29,000 depending on experience, plus on-call allowance. It is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm. This mobile role covers Oxford, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
Requirements for the role
Qualifications: At least one of the following:
* NVQ Level 2 or higher BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent.
* Formal apprenticeship or craft-trained equivalent.
Additional requirements:
* Driving licence is essential.
* Comfortable using technological devices to log jobs.
* On-call availability.
* Industry experience is desirable.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other technical disciplines.
Note: DBS and DVLA checks are required.
Key responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, technical guidance, statutory regulations, and relevant HTMs.
* Deliver scheduled, reactive, and remedial maintenance as directed, maintaining operational standards.
* Support minor works activities.
* Undertake routine repairs, including joinery, painting, general building, ground works, or plumbing.
* Maintain accurate site log books.
* Support project and minor capital works delivery.
* Complete risk assessments and work within relevant permits or work plans.
