This role in the National Portfolio Management Office will support allocating funding of a programme within our wider investment portfolio to ensure money is well allocated to achieve flood outcomes. This will include working with team members and stakeholders, seeking technical input, and collaborating with local teams to manage allocations. The role also involves ensuring programmes are well managed and supporting activities to improve outcomes, particularly developing new ways of working for a new investment programme starting in April 2026.

The Environment Agency is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all vacancies. Join us in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued.

* Serving as a technical lead for allocation and funding
* Leading in Portfolio Management
* Addressing technical queries through incident and routine tasks
* Supporting and managing the FCRM Refresh process

The role is within the FCRM directorate, in the Portfolio Management Assurance and Commercial department, part of the Portfolio Management Office.

Our team allocates funding to FCRM's investment programmes and manages performance to meet corporate goals, such as better flood protection for communities. We work in a fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders within the EA and Defra, emphasizing collaboration, development, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Experience/Skills Required

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

* Methodical working and attention to detail
* Ability to prioritize and manage workload
* Calmness under pressure and initiative
* Data management and problem-solving skills
* Experience with datasets, spreadsheets, and analysis tools
* Ability to produce visual graphics and presentations
* FCRM or programming experience; portfolio management experience is a plus but not essential

Contact and Additional Information

This dispersed team requires self-motivation and independence, with a hybrid role involving home and local office work, mainly in Birmingham and London. All staff must undertake training and participate in incident response duties, which are essential to supporting communities and protecting the environment. Further details are in the candidate pack.

Interviews will be via MS Teams before 15 July. Contact Gemma Elliott at gemma.elliott@environment-agency.gov.uk for inquiries.
