Community Use is the team that works hard to ensure most of the Halls, Community Centres and Schools in Fife are available for everyone to enjoy learning, leisure, life, and cultural events. Together with amazing partners we deliver a fantastic programme of inclusive pursuits including physical activity & sport, performing arts, arts & crafts, cookery, modern languages, and vocational training. We also offer space for meetings, celebrations, and community events in both modern and historical buildings usually found in the heart of the Kingdom’s city, towns, and villages. More information about Community Use can be found at:
Based at Madras College Community Use, you will deliver weekly pottery sessions as part of our adult arts and crafts programme. You’ll be working on Monday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm during term time, covering maternity leave for a one-year period. The start and end dates will be agreed with the successful applicant. Any hours worked after 8pm or at weekends are enhanced by 33%. You are also provided with an additional 20 minutes per hour for class preparation time. There will be opportunities to develop the programme and create additional hours with Pottery and/or other creative arts.
You will be joining a friendly and growing pottery team, working alongside an established instructor and supporting the continued expansion of this highly popular class, which recently grew from 18 to 26 participants following a successful funding award. The class is held in a fully equipped studio with kilns, pugmill, wheels, and dedicated pottery storage space.
There will also be opportunities to develop your role further—whether that’s through contributing to future class expansion, delivering workshops, or supporting new projects in children’s or intergenerational pottery. While this is not essential, it’s a great chance for the right candidate to shape the future of our creative arts programme.
You’ll be expected to provide a fun, relaxed, and social learning environment, using your skills to lead beginners and returning learners through project-based pottery, from clay preparation through to glazing and firing. You will also be provided with paid preparation time (20 minutes per teaching hour), and any hours worked after 8pm will be paid at the enhanced rate.
