Being an Explorers Volunteer is a rewarding experience. The role offers variety, flexibility, and fun! We inspire children and young people about our canals and rivers, using waterways to build life skills, raise aspirations, and connect children with the outdoors.
We provide full training, resources for leading groups, and support from a Learning & Skills Co-ordinator and fellow volunteers. Travel costs are reimbursed.
Why we want you
As an Education Volunteer, you'll inspire children and young people through outdoor activities related to canals and rivers, helping to develop their skills and aspirations.
You may be involved in:
* Leading school and group trips outdoors
* Delivering water safety education to children
* Conducting workshops for Girlguiding and Scouting groups
* Leading Water Safety Assemblies
* Facilitating STEM activities
Flexibility is key; you should be able to commit to 3-4 activities per month, mainly during school hours and term time.
What you will be doing
* Leading outdoor school and group trips
* Teaching water safety to children
* Running workshops for youth groups
* Discussing unspent convictions during registration and conducting risk assessments as needed
The skills you need
* Experience or interest in hands-on learning with children
* Ability to engage and enthuse young people
* Flexibility to volunteer during school terms and work within a team
