About The Role
As the
Data & Insights Engineer
at Sessions, you will play a critical role within the Data & Analytics team, driving both the foundational data infrastructure and the direct delivery of actionable insights. This role truly sits at the intersection of engineering and insight: you will be building, maintaining, and optimising our data infrastructure as well as enabling teams across the business to access, understand, and act on the data that drives our strategic decisions.

Your responsibilities will be to ensure reliable and efficient data flow from diverse sources, including external web data, into our central data warehouse. You will also act as a proactive insights analyst, directly supporting teams day-to-day. This means turning raw, complex data into usable analysis, responding to ad-hoc requests, proactively spotting critical trends, and empowering teams to make faster, better decisions based on precise data intelligence.

This position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer proficient in Python for data extraction and pipeline development, with strong expertise in SQL and Dataform for robust data transformation and orchestration. We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable writing robust, scalable data pipelines and skilled at answering "what happened and why?" questions from stakeholders.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

* Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and load data from various internal and external sources into our BigQuery data warehouse.
* Lead efforts in external data sourcing, including designing and implementing solutions using Python
* Pipeline orchestration with Mage: proven ability to design, deploy, and maintain production-grade pipelines in Mage, including handling scheduling, dependencies, and modular pipeline design.
* Data modelling and transformation in Dataform: hands-on experience developing, testing, and deploying scalable SQL models; managing schema evolution; and applying best practices for modular, maintainable code.
* Cloud Run deployment and management: experience containerising jobs, deploying scalable services, and troubleshooting runtime issues in Cloud Run.
* GCP general expertise: including BQ, GCS, Monitoring/alerting to ensure pipeline reliability.
* End-to-end debugging and incident response: demonstrated ability to resolve pipeline failures quickly, whether caused by upstream data issues, infrastructure limits, or code errors.
* Develop, optimise, and maintain complex data transformation scripts using Dataform and Python, ensuring data quality, consistency, and performance.
* Collaborate closely with the Data and Tech team and other business units to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements for data pipeline development.
* Lead and execute impactful data-driven analysis, translating complex business questions into actionable insights. This includes gathering nuanced stakeholder requirements, formulating data hypotheses, and performing in-depth analysis to uncover trends, insights and recommendations for various business units, including Product, Growth Marketing, Brand, and Operations.
* Provide rapid, accurate responses to ad-hoc data requests, supporting urgent analytical needs and problem-solving initiatives for diverse teams.
* Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for data pipelines to ensure data integrity, reliability, and timely delivery.
* Diagnose and resolve data-related issues and perform root cause analysis to resolve data pipeline failures and discrepancies.
* Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data architecture, data governance best practices.
* Champion innovation by staying ahead with the latest industry trends and technologies in data engineering to enhance our data platform capabilities.
* This also includes demonstrating the ability to quickly resolve pipeline failures, whether they are caused by upstream data issues, infrastructure limits, or code error

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
* 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer, highly technical Data Analyst or in a similar role focused on building and maintaining data pipelines and data models, preferably in a tech-focused environment.
* Advanced proficiency in Python for data manipulation, scripting, and developing robust data extraction solutions.
* Proven experience with GCP and particularity with Dataform for data transformation and Cloud Run to containerise jobs. This includes hands-on experience developing, testing, and deploying scalable SQL models; managing schema evolution; and applying best practices for modular, maintainable code.
* Expertise in SQL, with significant experience working with large datasets in cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or Snowflake.

* Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Enthusiastic and natural problem solver, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing data challenges.
