The Peri-Operative Assistant will be responsible for carrying out patient movement and general duties, including cleaning and other tasks to support both the theatre and recovery team. They will assist trained staff by effectively, promptly, and competently undertaking delegated duties, which include:
1. Distribution of sterile instrumentation.
2. Cleaning and preparation of theatre trolleys (including O2 cylinders), and placing trolleys in the anaesthetic room or nearby in readiness for mobile patients pre-operatively.
3. Checking supply of sequential compression devices in store and theatres, collecting devices from wards where necessary.
4. Receiving delivery of theatre scrubs and linen, and storing them appropriately.
5. Monitoring stock levels of theatre scrubs to ensure constant supply.
6. Stock warming cabinets with fluids when appropriate.
7. Unloading and storing supplies into the department store area, ensuring proper storage.
8. Maintaining stock levels within each theatre, sluice area, and recovery, including anaesthetic rooms, with stock level rotation.
9. Receiving requests to collect patients from ward areas and communicating any issues causing delays to the Theatre Manager.
10. Assisting in transferring patients from chairs or beds to trolleys in accordance with Moving and Handling Policy.
11. Transferring patients on trolleys or beds to the appropriate theatre with ward escort.
12. Assisting with transferring patients back to the ward, with trained nurses or HCAs as appropriate.
13. Checking and cleaning patient trolleys, ensuring expiry dates for post-op packs are in date.
