University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist role within its Cardiovascular and Thoracic care group, a regional centre of excellence.
Key Details
The position is a 37.5‑hour, 3‑day working week with a recruitment and retention premium of £5,000 p.a. (pro rata) and relocation support. Eligible candidates must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland. A contribution to relocation costs and an exceptional National Health Service Pay rate for additional shifts are also offered.
Responsibilities
* Perform adult cardiac surgical perfusion techniques, including cell salvage, point‑of‑care blood analysis, DHCA and ECMO.
* Support a wide range of cardiac procedures (1,800 adults and 400 paediatric cases annually).
* Participate fully in the department on‑call rota and carry out associated administrative duties.
* Work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high‑quality care.
Qualifications & Knowledge
* MSc in Clinical Perfusion Science or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Accreditation by Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.
* Full registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.
* Fully conversant with all aspects of adult cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and associated techniques.
* Fully conversant with specialist techniques and perfusion procedures required by individual patients such as left heart bypass, cerebral perfusion (both antegrade and retrograde), vacuum‑assisted venous drainage, ventricular assist devices and blood conservation techniques.
Desirable Experience
* Broad experience in neonatal, paediatric and GUCH perfusion.
* Paediatric perfusion experience.
* Paediatric ECMO training course.
