Overview

Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing role at Prifysgol Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth School of Veterinary Sciences, Department of Life Sciences. This post supports the development and delivery of veterinary nursing qualifications and related activities within the School.


Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver course content for the Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing in collaboration with the Programme Lead.
* Assist in personal tutoring of student veterinary nurses and support development of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in veterinary nursing.
* Contribute to high-quality research via internal and external collaboration and by applying for external funding; contribute to administration and teaching within ASVS and at Faculty/University level where appropriate.
* Assist with development and accreditation of post-registration qualifications in veterinary nursing, including at graduate and post-graduate levels; support the development of clinical learning areas for the FdSc Veterinary Nursing.
* Contribute to recruitment and selection of students onto the FdSc Veterinary Nursing and future post-registration qualifications.
* Ensure appropriate guidelines, policies and regulations are in place, updated and implemented to support learning; liaise with professional services to ensure compliance with internal regulatory requirements; promote Veterinary Nursing through recruitment and marketing.
* Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post; support the university’s equal opportunities and diversity policy and development of staff through the University’s Effective Contribution Scheme; undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.


Professional Practice

* Develop and maintain an external profile, including publications, membership of professional bodies and external panels/examining.
* Undertake external networking with key stakeholders including the BVNA and RCVS, and the wider academic Veterinary Nursing education community.
* Engage in continued professional development to enhance personal skills; abide by the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct for Veterinary Nurses.


Enterprise

* Collaborate with the wider academic community, relevant professional bodies and other key stakeholders; bid for external income where appropriate.


Essential – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

* BSc in a relevant discipline
* Professional qualification in Veterinary Nursing
* Contemporary knowledge and experience of veterinary nursing, including current policy, research and professional development
* Minimum of 1 year of clinical or academic veterinary nursing experience post-qualification
* Knowledge of the RCVS Day One Skills, Day One Competences, Professional Behaviours and the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct for Veterinary Nurses
* Excellent teamwork, people and communication skills
* Ability to understand bilingual environment and support bilingual working where required


Desirable

* MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline
* Interest in veterinary research and evidence-based veterinary nursing
* Teaching qualification and/or FHEA; commitment to Welsh language learning (Level B1) and Welsh language standards
