Job Description:

Term Time Only (36 hours per week over 40 weeks per year)

Are you passionate about providing opportunities for young people to achieve their personal/social development goals?

Are you a skilled youth practitioner, able to build trust, rapport, and relationships?

If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Kingston College is seeking a Student Community Officer to support Curriculum, Student Services and Security Teams in engaging students, especially those considered ‘at risk’ or ‘hard to reach’.

You’ll play a key role in fostering a positive ethos within the Creative Industries Campus of the College community, including enrichment and holistic Student Services. You’ll provide an engaging, welcoming onsite presence during College hours, signposting enrichment opportunities, promoting positive attitudes, inclusivity, and appropriate behavior, and implementing early intervention strategies for students ‘at risk.’

Requirements include a Level 3 qualification or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g., youth work, youth justice, social care) and experience in outreach/detached youth work or similar. Experience working with young people in a school or College setting, with an understanding of issues affecting attendance and behavior, is essential.

You should be able to establish positive relationships with young people while maintaining appropriate boundaries, with skills in managing challenging behavior, de-escalation, negotiation, and restorative approaches. Organizational skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and experience with IT and data systems for student records are also required.

Closing date for applications is 18th August 2025.

Benefits include a generous package, pension scheme, subsidized sports facilities, professional development, and a cycle-to-work scheme.

Successful candidates will undergo enhanced DBS checks, references, online searches, and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

We are committed to equality and encourage applications from all individuals regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy, race, religion, or belief, marriage, and civil partnerships.

The South Thames Colleges Group comprises Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College, and South Thames College, one of London’s largest post-16 education providers, dedicated to student success and community contribution.

Safeguarding Statement: South Thames Colleges Group is an equal opportunities employer committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
