Organisation: Tir na n-Og are looking to develop and grow a pool of supply staff who can be called upon to undertake the role of Supply Nursery Nurse on an as and when required basis. Payment would be made according to hours worked and upon submission of an authorised time-sheet.


Responsibilities

* To contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the day care centre.
* To give support to other personnel within the day care centre.
* To implement the daily routine appropriate to the room within which they are located in the Nursery (e.g., the baby room).


Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should be qualified to level 3 in children’s care, learning and development, with previous experience in a childcare setting and a positive approach to their continued professional development (CPD).

Candidates will also be expected to have an awareness and some understanding of the importance of health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace.

This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.

Purpose of the Job

The Supply Nursery Nurse will work as part of a key worker team for the daily needs of children between birth and five years and will support other personnel within the setting.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* To operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff.
* To support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
* To work with parents/carers of special needs children to enable full integration in the setting.
* To keep a proper record of achievement file on your key children for parents/carers.
* To liaise and support parents/carers and other family members.
* To be involved with in- and out-of-working-hours activities (e.g., training, monthly staff meetings, fundraising).
* To be flexible within the working practices of the setting.
* To undertake domestic duties as required.
* To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
* To record accidents in the accident book with manager initialisation before the parent receives it.
* To consider the setting as a whole and assist where help is most needed.
* To be aware of the needs of the children to ensure every child is collected by someone known to the setting.
* To respect confidentiality of information received.
* To develop your role within the team, especially regarding the key worker position.


Specific childcare tasks

* Preparation and completion of activities to suit the child’s stage of development.
* Ensure mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
* Ensure the washing and changing of children as required.
* Provide comfort and warmth to an ill child.
* Uphold high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and backgrounds.
* Be aware of the high profile of the setting and uphold its standards at all times.
* Actively promote safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace and observe setting policies and procedures.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

* Be prepared to undertake other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the senior nursery nurse/manager.
* Participate in performance review and developmental activities.

* Adhere to health, safety, and wellbeing responsibilities and comply with all policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
* Comply with relevant legal and financial policies and understand responsibilities of the post.


Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential: Level 2 in childcare qualification and willing to work towards level 3.

Desirable: Safeguarding certificate; First aid certificate; Food hygiene certificate.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential: Previous experience of caring for or working with children from birth to five years old in a voluntary or paid capacity; knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provision; awareness of health and safety and food hygiene.

Desirable: Understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.

Skills/Abilities

Essential: Good organisational and planning skills; good communication with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers; patience and empathy; positive inclusive practice; enthusiasm for working with young children.

Desirable: Ability to work in small teams.

Other

Essential: Positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork; commitment to high-quality childcare; willingness to undertake other duties as required; satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

Desirable: Interest in care, learning and development of young children; ability to speak Welsh.
