Contract Design Engineer - New Product Development
Leeds, UK | 12-month contract | Immediate Start
We’re supporting a leading global medical device manufacturer in Leeds who are looking for an experienced Contract Design Engineer to join their R&D team. This role focuses on new product development, working across metallic and plastic components and precision engineered assemblies.
You’ll support both new design activity and improvements to existing products, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and contributing to key project milestones.
What you’ll be doing
* Applying solid design engineering principles to evolve existing products through new manufacturing processes, resolving quality and cost challenges.
* Delivering R&D design work for new and modified components.
* Performing and reviewing analysis to verify design intent before manufacture.
* Producing high-quality CAD models and detailed drawings.
* Creating documentation for the Design History File, including tolerance stack-ups.
* Planning and supporting lab studies aligned with risk management processes.
* Supporting testing activities, risk management, FMEA, DHF updates and equipment validations.
* Providing design support across site functions as needed.
What we’re looking for
* Degree in Design, Mechanical or Medical Engineering.
* Strong experience resolving product design and manufacturing issues under tight timelines.
* Proven track record designing precision-engineered products from concept to production.
* Confident creating complex CAD models and drawings (3D CAD – ideally Unigraphics/NX).
Bonus points for
* Experience with Windchill PLM.
* Knowledge of medical device design controls and quality systems.
* Familiarity with risk management processes.
