Overview
We are looking for a Higher Level SEN Teaching Assistant to join our expanding team, to be part of this exciting new experience from the start. This specialist school based in Barking is looking for an HLTA with experience of working with challenging children and young people. The school caters for young people who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from a mainstream school.
Responsibilities
* Experience of working with hard-to-reach young people with SEMH/ACEs/ASD/Sensory and communication difficulties.
* Trauma-informed with a mentoring/coaching/teaching background and an understanding of Therapeutic Education.
* Ability to build strong, meaningful and healthy relationships while maintaining professional boundaries; be resilient, solution-focused and reflective in practice.
* Work 1:1 with students in the community who are accessing Curriculum Pathways (Engagement, Vocational, Academic).
* Travel within London to work with different students within cluster groups; flexibility to travel to the hub as needed.
* Support the day-to-day running of classes and, in absence of a Class Teacher, take the lead as required.
* Deliver high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities through a broad and balanced curriculum aiming for pupil progress.
Key Duties
* Monitor pupils' conduct and behaviour, intervene in highly complex or challenging situations, and keep records of incidents, health and behaviour as necessary.
* Promote cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and well-being through a whole-day curriculum.
* Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes designed and supervised by a therapist/care professional.
* Assist the Class Teacher with duties outlined in Professional Standards for Teachers; plan, prepare and deliver teaching activities to individuals, small groups and/or classes, adapting as needed under supervision.
* Provide high quality, differentiated educational experiences and activities across a broad curriculum to help pupils achieve their potential.
* Support the day-to-day running of classes and take the lead in the absence of a Class Teacher.
Qualifications / Skills
* Experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs.
* Commitment to providing a safe, stable, containing learning environment for young people.
* Experience with secondary-aged pupils who have SEMH/SEBD, with some students academically placed from KS2 to KS4.
* Experience supporting personalised individual education plans to help students succeed.
Details
* Full-time, temporary long term position; 8.30–4.30, Monday to Friday.
* Role is primarily community-based with potential travel to hubs and to work with different students within cluster groups.
* There is no on-site private parking (pay and display available). Travel expenses during working hours and lunches with students are reimbursed.
