Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Barking, starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting a pupil with additional needs and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally within a mainstream school setting.

The school has a strong commitment to inclusion and pupil wellbeing. Staff work closely together to provide personalised support for pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Senior leadership is supportive and ensures staff receive appropriate training, guidance, and opportunities for professional development.

As an SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a named pupil to provide consistent, tailored support throughout the school day. You will help the pupil access learning, manage emotions and behaviour, and develop independence and confidence. You will also work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals to implement individual support strategies effectively.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN

* Support the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development

* Assist with the implementation of individual education and behaviour plans

* Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the pupil’s needs

* Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence

* Support the pupil during lessons, transitions, and playtimes

* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and support staff

* Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and reports

* Maintain a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment

* Support personal care where required

* Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

* Have experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in a 1:1 role

* Be patient, empathetic, and resilient

* Have strong communication and teamwork skills

* Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable

* Show a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs

* Be confident working independently and as part of a team

* Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

The school is located in Barking, with excellent transport links and a diverse local community. Staff benefit from a professional, inclusive, and well-resourced working environment where collaboration, development, and staff wellbeing are prioritised.
