Data Engineer - SAP
5 days per week onsite – East Midlands
£500-£550 per day, Outside IR35

We are currently seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines and datasets that support reporting, analytics and business decision-making. This role will play a key part in transforming data from core systems including SAP, Excel and cloud platforms into structured, trusted and accessible outputs, particularly for use in Power BI.
This is a hands‑on role, well suited to someone who can combine strong technical data engineering skills with a practical understanding of business reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest and transform data from SAP, Excel and cloud-based systems
* Develop and manage structured datasets for reporting, analytics and business intelligence
* Write and optimise SQL queries, views and transformations to support downstream reporting
* Support the design of logical data models, ontologies and business data definitions
* Ensure data quality, integrity and consistency across systems and reporting outputs
* Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
* Prepare clean, reliable datasets for Power BI dashboards and reporting
* Troubleshoot data issues and improve reliability and accuracy of outputs
* Document data flows, transformations and structures
* Contribute to data standards, governance and best practice
Key Experience Required
* Proven experience in a Data Engineer or similar role
* Strong SQL skills with the ability to write efficient and maintainable queries
* Solid understanding of data modelling, structures and transformation logic
* Experience working with SAP data for reporting or analytics
* Strong experience handling and structuring Excel‑based data
* Experience working with cloud‑based data environments
* Experience preparing data for Power BI or similar BI tools
* Understanding of data quality, governance and data management principles
* Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
* Ability to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
