Promote and support the health and wellbeing of all school aged children, their families and the wider community. Carry out needs assessment for children and families, and implement planned programmes of care delegated by the School Nurse specialist practitioner.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Identify and protect children at risk of abuse in accordance with local safeguarding guidelines.
* Attend safeguarding and other meetings to improve child health outcomes.
* Provide written reports to the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.
* Conduct selective health care interventions as directed and refer to other agencies or health professionals as necessary.
* Provide professional support and advice to children, young people, families and schools, liaising with the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.
Service Delivery Responsibilities
* Support delivery of the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme (DoH 2009) and National Childhood Measurement programme.
* Assist in planning, assessing needs and delivering agreed provision of a school health service to each school.
* Work within the Nursing & Midwifery Council framework; comply with Trust policies and guidelines including clinical supervision.
* Promote uptake of school nurse contacts, public health interventions, screening and immunisations/vaccinations.
