Looking for an opportunity to further your knowledge and skills in Cardiology within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment? We are looking for an enthusiastic Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner to join the department.

Our innovative Cardiology department's Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 cath labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future.

A role in the cath lab includes caring for patient's pre and post recovery in the elective unit and acting as scrub practitioner during sterile cases.

Supernumerary time and support would be given to develop competencies in all areas.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be able to develop your skills in

* Working in recovery admitting and recovering allocated patients
* Scrubbing to assist in our range of interventional and diagnostic procedures
* Supporting registered nurses caring for patients during non GA procedures with conscious sedation and pain relief as required and accurately documenting this
* Handing over patients to the recovery team post procedure

Shifts include a 9.5 hour day, 12 hour day and Twilight/night shift.

Job responsibilities

* To accurately and responsibly carry out instructions of the registered members of the multi-disciplinary nursing team who are professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
* To report to qualified staff any patient that gives cause for concern and any observed changes in a patient's clinical condition.
* To report all care that has been given to patients within the multi-disciplinary team and document accurately whilst maintaining confidentiality.
* To be aware of and adhere to all trust policies/procedures/guidelines when undertaking any activities.
* To make patients welcome to the clinical area and undertake observations and post procedural care under the minimal supervision of the registered practitioner.
* Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal care.
* Understand and attend to the biopsychosocial needs of the patient, relatives, and carers.
* Undertake monitoring of observations ensuring documentation is accurate, legible.
* Adhere to Trust infection control procedure demonstrating an understanding of cross infection.
* Support and continue care initiated by transferring wards.

Please note that this advertised position, which is part of occupation code 2237 does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa (this includes if you are already in a sponsored post and looking to change employer) as this post is for part time hours (18.75 per week). The Trust would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Associate Nurse - on NMC register OR Assistant Practitioner - Foundation degree in Health Studies (Science)/BTEC in Health Studies and competency based learning programme


Experience

* Significant experience in an acute healthcare environment

* Ability to work well in a team
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload
