Location: Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre
Salary: Up to £38.27 per hour

Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre are now recruiting a Computing tutor to join the existing teaching team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching modules within our computing programmes offered by the Centre. Whilst this role will have some responsibilities for more foundational computing requirements, delivered by the centre, this role will be the primary tutor who will oversight of the cyber security elements of the pathway programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative tutor. The right candidate will have a natural ability to motivate students and deliver high quality teaching as well as carrying out relevant pastoral functions. You will enjoy working with international students, be performance driven and be able to work co-operatively and flexibly with other colleagues within the centre and across the network. We are looking for a patient tutor who is committed to providing an interesting and effective blended learning experience to our students.


ABOUT THE ROLE
1. To deliver high quality teaching to groups of international students
2. To undertake marking and feedback provision on a formative and summative basis, whilst complying with quality standards and processes.
3. To act as a Module Leader in relevant subject areas to include coordinating a team of tutors, updating module handbooks, preparing module assessment analysis and review reports and detailed schemes of work (indicative).
4. To deliver schemes of work effectively, to set assessments and mark these in a timely manner.
5. To teach up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (teaching contact time).
6. To implement enhancement and enrichment activities across the curriculum (both inside and outside of the classroom).
7. To act as a personal/group tutor to provide academic and pastoral support to students.
8. To ensure student punctuality, attendance, and appropriate behaviour in class/teaching rooms.
9. To maintain accurate and up to date records of student attendance and assessment grades.
10. To maintain accurate progression risk tracking and student performance data.
11. To make every effort to secure the best performance from each student at their level both during their course and in final exams and assessments.
12. To actively promote the use of differentiation in the classroom.
13. To actively promote the creative use of TEL (technology enhanced learning) and ensure the VLE (virtual learning environment) meets provider and university standards for the modules you teach.
14. To contribute to the preparation of mid and end of term student reports.
15. To be responsible for creating and updating teaching materials.
ABOUT YOU
16. At least Master's degree qualified in computing discipline, with specialisms in cyber security.
17. PhD (or soon completing) in cyber security subject area (desirable).
18. Relevant teaching qualification
19. Teaching experience in further or/and higher education (ideally to international students on university preparation courses at foundation level).
20. Experience of developing and updating teaching materials, and experience of working with a Virtual Learning Environment.
21. Experience in assessment marking and moderation activities (desirable).
22. Experience in assessment design (desirable).
23. Competence in administration and IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.).
24. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
25. Experienced in coding – especially in Java (required).
26. Desirable – Experience in other object-orientated languages (Python) as well as web development languages would be beneficial.
