About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Data Scientist to join our dynamic team on a contract basis in Osterley, UK. This pivotal role involves leading the development and deployment of advanced AI solutions focused on live sports analytics. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of computer vision, machine learning, generative AI, and data science, with a passion for transforming complex sports data into real‑time, actionable insights. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams including product managers, software engineers, and sports analysts to create innovative solutions that enhance fan engagement and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
* A minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI development, with a proven track record of leading projects from conception to deployment.
* Strong expertise in computer vision, deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch), and generative AI techniques.
* Solid programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages, with experience in data manipulation, feature engineering, and model optimisation.
* Experience with MLOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, model monitoring, and drift detection.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to translate complex data into clear insights and strategic recommendations.
* Strong communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related fields; PhD is a plus.
Responsibilities
* Lead the end‑to‑end development of AI solutions that analyse live sports data, utilising computer vision, machine learning and generative AI techniques.
* Design and implement systems that automatically generate sports metadata, identify key moments in live matches, and streamline content‑tagging processes.
* Create models that provide insights into player performance, contextual statistics, and injury risk assessments, ensuring all models adhere to ethical AI standards.
* Develop personalization engines that deliver tailored content and insights to fans based on their preferences, teams, players, and match contexts.
* Establish frameworks for experimentation, including A/B testing, metrics tracking, and dashboard creation to support data‑driven decision‑making.
* Implement and scale MLOps practices, including continuous integration and deployment, model monitoring, and automated alerts for model drift or performance issues.
* Collaborate with product teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure the successful delivery of projects on time and within scope.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI and sports analytics to continually enhance the company's offerings and maintain a competitive edge.
