Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Senior Planner to be engaged on a contract basis. Candidates will ideally be based in Birmingham, with hybrid working supported.
Role:
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, world-class project controls team working on some of the UK's largest transportation infrastructure projects. You will be part of an experienced team that significantly impacts the successful delivery of multi-million-pound contracts, utilizing state-of-the-art project controls tools and techniques to provide concise information to the projects they support.
Requirements:
* Rail/Highway experience.
* A detailed understanding of transportation technologies, including Signalling, Track (P-Way), Structures (tunnels, bridges, earthworks, embankments, buildings, structures, gantries, access platforms), Electrification & Plant, and Telecoms.
* Experience programming multi-disciplinary engineering design and a good understanding of engineering activities and scheduling.
* Must have an excellent understanding of how projects are designed, procured, constructed, and commissioned.
* Expert user of Primavera P6.
* Ability to carry out Project Control duties with limited supervision, working independently on Project and Tender Programmes.
* Experience managing Junior planners, including task allocation, achievement checks, and providing feedback and guidance.
* Experience with various contract forms, including NEC.
* Experience with Schedule Risk and Cost analysis, Claims, and working with enterprise systems.
* Preparation of project resource histograms.
* Implementation and use of EVM on projects.
* Understanding of Project Controls Techniques including budget and spend management, change control, Earned Value Management, data and trend analysis, and Work Package Management.
* Experience on large projects up to 50m.
* Engineering qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred.
* Membership of APM preferred.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
* Proactive, structured, analytical, with attention to detail and data quality.
Responsibilities:
* Manage all aspects of the Project programme and Project Controls.
* Represent and promote Project Controls Policy, attend and guide client progress meetings.
* Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
* Supervise junior team members as required.
* Understand the commercial and financial aspects of project management.
* Build and maintain relationships with clients.
* Understand transportation technologies and markets.
* Provide project performance data, schedules, and reports promptly.
* Identify deviations and slippages, report issues to senior management.
* Highlight programme issues and advise on planning.
* Deliver Period Programme Updates, including changes and delays.
* Produce reports to support project decision-making.
