Overview of project/role
London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.
We currently have a great opportunity for a Materials Handler (Nights) to join the Engineering Vehicle Logistics Team (EVL). You will be involved in the day-to-day loading/unloading of vehicles to meet safety, quality and productivity targets.
You will also support Crane Operators working as slingers or banksmen in Ruislip Depot and on all possessions and specified areas as required.
Key Accountabilities
* To load and unload vehicles from any location required on the LU Network
* To actively liaise with the Loading Chargehands and EV Logistics Manager to ensure that all loading activity is performed to the agreed standard.
* Working as part of a team engaged in the loading and unloading of vehicles.
* Loading and unloading carried out to the required Rule Book Standards of Safety, quality and reliability, and service requirements.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
* Practical skills associated with loading and unloading (Essential)Good communication skills to communicate effectively with other team members and management (Essential)
* Able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions and recommend appropriate action to suit site conditions (Essential)
* Able to correctly identify vehicles and their uses (Essential)
* Demonstrate understanding of responsibilities concerning rules, regulations, documentation, and procedures and be able to apply these (Essential).
* Able to operate Teleporter, Forklift, if applicable for the shift (Essential)
Knowledge
* Knowledge of rolling stock safety procedures (Essential)
* Thorough knowledge of materials and equipment – identification, uses and safety factors to work in accordance with the Engineering Vehicle Loading Manual R904 (Desirable)
* Qualified as Banksman / Slinger (Essential)
* Knowledge of load vehicle gauging and tare specifications (Essential)
* BTA (Basic Track aware) (Essential)
* IWA (Individual working alone) (Desirable)
* Safety critical licence (Desirable)
* Stock safety loading licence (Desirable)
Experience
* Currently hold a Banksman / Slinger certification (Essential)
* Currently hold railway track certification (Essential)
* Experience working in and around heavy machinery and Engineering Trains (Essential)
* Experience working within possessions/specified areas (Engineering vehicles) (Essential)
* Full UK Driving Licence (Desirable).
* Currently hold or have held PWT (TM) certification (Desirable)
